187 Ocean Road, Lorne

Location

Lorne, Vic

Architect

Josh Crosbie

Positioned on the Great Ocean Road as you enter Lorne, this home makes an immediate impression. A striking rammed earth wall anchors the frontage, while expansive glazing opens the home to uninterrupted ocean views.

What isn’t immediately visible is the level of engineering and coordination required behind the scenes. The site required significant excavation into the rear bank, supported by a 6-metre-high retaining system. This was achieved using bored piers up to 900mm in diameter and extending over 15 metres deep, combined with a shotcrete retention system to stabilise the site.

The result is a seamless blend of architectural intent and structural execution. A highly considered build that balances raw natural materials with refined detailing, all set against one of the most iconic coastal backdrops in Australia.
